Mini motorbike thieves chased by family

TWO hapless thieves who tried to steal a mini motorcycle from an Ash pub were chased by the owner’s family after being spotted wheeling the bike away.
The men were pursued from the Old Ford in Lynchford Road, Ash Vale, by the pub’s owners and their son, who had only bought the bike two days earlier.
Dean Tremain, 17, saw the thieves push his mini moto 50cc bike past the kitchen window at 12.30am, after the pub had closed for the night.
The two men, described as "not the smartest of people in the world", had climbed into the pub’s private back garden and pushed the bike across to a wall where they had laid out a mattress to help them get back out.
They then started up the bike a short distance along the road.
Dean alerted his parents Tamara and Wayne Tremain, who leapt into a car to look for the thieves while he followed them on foot.
Mrs Tremain, 40, said: “Dean was in the kitchen and watched them go past and didn’t know what to do.
“He said, ‘Mum, someone’s nicking my bike’. I’ve never got dressed so fast.”
But by the time she and her husband jumped into the car they had lost sight of the thieves.
Mrs Tremain said: “We got to the roundabout and wound down the windows and couldn’t hear anything, so we relied on our instincts and went under the flyover leading to Farnborough.
“We caught up with the thieves in the car and came to a screaming halt. We asked them where they got the bike from and they said they just found it.
“I raised my voice a bit and told them we had just seen them wheel it past the window. They threw the bike down and ran off.”
Meanwhile, Dean had been tracking the men as well, arriving shortly after his parents.
Mrs Tremain explained: “He’s like a little detective, and he could smell the petrol from the bike and followed his nose across the footbridge.”
She added: “It was quite nerve-racking and frightening because you don’t know how they are going to react.”
Surrey Police is appealing for information about the incident, which took place on Tuesday, April 20.
One of the thieves was described as white, aged 17 to 23, over 6ft tall, with curly, bushy, blond hair. He wore a grey hooded top and dark skin-tight jeans.
The other suspect was described as a dark skinned man aged 20 to perhaps 26, unshaven with short dark hair. He wore a black top, black trousers and white trainers, and he had a bandage around his right hand.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Surrey Police on 0845 125 2222 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
